Important Information
- In 2002 – 2005 RAM trucks, the fuse & relay box is actually referred to as an “IPM”.
- Attached to the side of all IPMs is a separate, detachable, pop-tart sized metallic device, called the FCM.
- In almost all 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 problem cases of this sort, it is the IPM that is at fault. Common symptoms include rear external lights issues, trailer lights, headlamp issues, signal issues, and being stuck in a lower gear (limp mode), although many other electrical system faults can also occur.
- The overwhelming majority of 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup truck IPM failures are caused by corrosion that begins on the IPM circuit board in a few very predictable locations. A poor case design that allows moisture, road salts, etc to reach the circuit board and damage the traces is the culprit.

If this IPM is out of stock, you may consider substituting 56049011 / 56045433, as it merely has more features and will work in your vehicle.
- 56049011 / 56045433 – is with Oval Plugs for 2002 to early 2003 vehicles. Either or both part numbers may appear on your IPM and are interchangeable part numbers. This IPM mere has additional features that can make it a good substitute for 56045765 / 56049019.
- 56049680 – is with Oval Plugs for 2002 to early 2003 vehicles.
